I was born in Waterloo, Iowa and given my first easel, brushes and paint when I was about 5 years old. About 23 years later I married artist Mitch Levin. I evolved from graphic designer to abstract painter and we began our art business in 1990 while we raised our 2 kids in Chicago, Illinois. In 2013 we moved our art business to Boulder, Colorado (because of our love for the mountains).
I continue to work as a mixed media artist, creating pieces primarily with acrylic, latex, wood panels and carved wood pieces. My art is abstract but I create in an organized, planned almost architectural way, much like my past experience as a graphic designer when preparing a layout for an ad.  Each piece is an original. Many pieces are inspired by my love for small details and shapes from things around me, many times jewelry pieces from fellow artists. I’ll look at something small and think how great it would look really large on a wall. Many times I’ll add numbers, a fun detail from my graphic design days. I have stretched many canvases but more recently I work on the raw wood panel, layering and sanding the paint. I sculpt wood pieces which then are placed within windows of my wood panels. Each of these pieces is cut, carved, drilled and dyed or painted. I feel like these carved pieces are a bit of an adventure, both in allowing me to work three dimensionally and also to step away from my paints, easel and studio and work in my husband’s sculpture/furniture studio full of power tools.
I like to push my limits on each piece. “It's like taking a recipe, but never sticking to the exact ingredients”.
